I’m hosting poker night for 8-10 people and I was wondering what would be the best food to serve. Sandwiches are too boring. I was thinking nachos with dip, or deviled eggs, pita chips, etc etc etc.. i also want to serve something sweet, like cake or something… or would that be too much?? What do you guys think??

1I think what you have will be -perfect-. It’s all finger foods that won’t get messy and all over the cards, despite what some people may think. If you really want to do some kind of sweet stuff, I’d make mini muffins or cupcakes (again small finger foods). I also don’t think this would be too much food, because Poker nights usually run late into the night. I wouldn’t want anyone getting hungry on me.
I’m actually planning on making these mini cupcakes this weekend:
Mascarpone Mini Cupcakes with Strawberry Glaze
* 8 ounces mascarpone cheese (about 1 cup), softened
* 2 egg whites
* 1/4 cup vegetable oil
* 1 box white cake mix
* 1 cup water
* 1/3 cup frozen strawberries, thawed and drained
* 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Special equipment: 4 mini muffin tins and 48 mini muffin paper cupcake liners
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line the mini tins with paper liners.
In a large bowl combine the mascarpone cheese, egg whites and vegetable oil. Using a hand mixer, beat the ingredients until combined and creamy. Add the cake mix and water and mix until smooth, about 3 minutes. Fill the mini cups to just below the rim and bake until puffed and golden, about 18 to 20 minutes. Remove from the oven, let cool slightly in the tin then transfer the cupcakes to a wire rack.
Meanwhile, puree the strawberries in a blender or small food processor. Place the powdered sugar in a medium bowl. Pour in the strawberry puree and whisk until smooth. Top the cooled cupcakes with the strawberry glaze. Let the cupcakes sit for a few minutes for the glaze to firm up, then serve.

3Sandwiches need not be boring and two things to consider are: how messy will the fingers become and how much mess will be dropped onto the table or floor? The purpose of the evening is card-playing not a gourmet event so suggest you serve sandwiches cut into 2-bite portions with cookies for dessert. If you want to serve deviled eggs, be sure to buy small eggs so they can be swallowed in one bite – I can’t imagine the guys (or girls) will want to be jumping up for hand-washing during bidding time.
Have fun and don’t lose too many pennies!

4You could make Yummy Mexican Dip.
Ingredients
* 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
* ½ cup sour cream
* ¼ cup mayonnaise
* 2 teaspoons taco seasoning
* 1 cup taco sauce
* 2 cups shredded Mexican-style cheese
* 2 green onions, chopped
* 1 medium green pepper, diced
* 2 medium tomatoes
* Tortilla chips
Directions
1.Mix softened cream cheese with sour cream and mayonnaise. Stir in taco seasoning, mixing until smooth.
2.Spread onto a 12-inch round serving platter. Spread with taco sauce and sprinkle with Mexican-style cheese, chopped onion, and diced pepper. Cover and refrigerate until serving.
3.Just before serving, dice tomatoes and spoon diced tomatoes on top of diced bell pepper. Serve with tortilla chips.
Or how about Oriental Chicken Pita, Fresh Peach Pitas?

58-10 people sounds like a poker tournament. You’ll probably want two kinds of food. Quick and non-messy stuff for the people who are in, and make you feel better food for people who are out. So chips and such on one side, and maybe pizza/donuts or something on another side. Also, drinks, soda and maybe beers depending on the crowd. Then again, the host isn’t required to actually provide anything, but it’s always appreciated by hungry players!

6I have the perfect solution!!! my grandpa used to host “Bunko” tournaments and my mom would always make these!!! They’re perfect little bites that will fill em’ up and keep ‘em happy!
All you need are pillsbury refrigerated crescent rolls, cream cheese, bacon, fine shredded cheddar and chives. Just take uncooked crescent rolls which come in triangles, lay them flat, and mix all ingredients together and ball them in the middle of each triangle. roll up the crescent as normal, and cook for the amount of time indicated on the back of the package.
Delicious, good luck!
EDIT: Chopped bacon of course, not whole strips

7Although your menu sounds great to me, it is not one for a “Poker Night”. You do not want messy fingers when playing cards. Try to think of menu items that are not going to leave greasy fingers.
