A friend of mine an I are planning a poker run in which the proceeds benefit a girl with the disease Cystic Fibrosis. Just incase you don’t know what a poker run is, I’ll briefly describe it. A poker run is an organized motorcycle event where riders travel over a prescribed course and at designated stopping points, select a card. At the end of the run, the person with the best poker hand wins a prize.
Anyway, I am asking if anyone has any ideas or suggestions to make it more fun for the bikers? We will have a cash prize for the winner, but we will also have ticket drawings, so what type of items should we set out for them to win? What companies would most likely donate?
Also, how many bars to stop at, five or six? We need five cards, but maybe a six bar to stop at for the food and drinks?

1I think five will be enough, depending on how far away they are from each other. Six is kind of pointless (at least to me).
For prizes, I would go with certificates to local motorcycle shops or stores. I’m sure anyone that wins would be happy with that, and I think the shops or stores would be willing to donate. Afterall, they will be getting business with the certificates (people are likely to spend more than the certificate is worth) and because they are part of the motorcycle community, they should be involved in something like this. It’s probably the best way to get their name infront of riders in a good way. Plus they can show off some of their stuff at the final stopping point. Tshirts, hats, whatever.
Infact I have never seen them not involved in something like this.

2I’ve been on poker runs where you get your first and last card at the start/finish point. That way you only need to find 3 stops out on the road. You don’t necessarily need to set up stops at bars. Those who want to drink and ride will find the bars on their own.
