I read somewhere that 95% of people who play poker are losing players overall. So you have to realize going into it, if you want to just turn a profit, you have to be in the top 5% of players in the world. That’s quite a feat.
I guess I’d ask what you think “good” money is. In my opinion, it takes only a moderate amount of skill to make a little money (and I do mean “little”) at the micro limit games. Once you get into the low limits where a person could actually make a decent amount of money, even if that is just a couple hundred bucks a week, you’re playing mostly against decent players, and you need to be in that top 5% to turn a consistent profit. When you step up to the limits where a person can realistically make a living wage (say $750 or more a week), then you’re going to be sitting at tables where most of the other people are profitable and a good amount of them are professionals. If you want to consistently profit in these games, you need to really be a top tier player.
That being said, if you’ve never played for money before, online is a great place to start. Almost no live casinos have no limit tables less than $1/$2, meaning you need realistically need $500 in your pocket just to sit down. Online, you can sit in a cash game with .01/.02 limits, meaning you only need 5 bucks. So you tell me, having never played for real money before, would you rather risk $5 or $500? The only other place to play for real money but really low limits is with your friends. Organizing a nickel and dime game with your friends, or a tournament with a $5 or less buy in is a perfectly reasonable way to break into poker.
Anyway, my suggestion is to either organize that nickel game with your friends, or start at the PLAY money tables online. If you can build up your play money bankroll to the point you can play in the highest limit play money TOURNAMENTS (not ring games, those people are still often trash players) and make a consistent profit, then you’re probably good enough to win in the micro limit real money games.
It is not at all difficult to make money by playing online poker. You can learn from videos, online tutorials and learn various game winning strategies from http://www.casinosdiary.com/category/gam… to win a lot of money with online poker. Try playing with play money to keep yourself at a safe side if you loose money in the beginning. You can start with Fulltilt, the safe, secure and popular online poker room.
Online poker is good place to start, especially learning if you are unaware of poker.
Here, you would find players of all type,be it pros, newbies, semipros, casual. It is good that you have read some books. Plus I would advice you to play freeroll from fulltilt http://www.casinoscorner.com/full-tilt-p… or pokerstars http://www.casinoscorner.com/pokerstars as they are best websites for online poker. It would help you in developing confidence.
You can also read books like The theory of Poker by David salansky, Read em and Reap- by Phil hellmuth.
Poker is a game of skill and the less experience you have, the more difficult it is to make money. You have done well to read up on it but I would suggest signing up to a poker room of choice and start playing really small limits or freerolls.
For Freerolls, check out the links below as they offer more money than any other:http://irakeback.co.uk/blog/freerolls
Set yourself a limit if you decide to play cash and try to build your bankroll rather than continuing to deposit cash (unless you are rich)
One increase the amount of money you have won (bankroll) then you can start to play higher stakes.
Continue to read and learn – that’s the best advice I can give.
If you play a lot, I would suggest signing up to receive rakeback from a poker room to increase the amount of money you earn. When you play online poker, your chosen poker room will take a cut of every pot, the percentage is roughly around 5%. This is called the rake and the only way any poker room makes money.
To sign up and earn your rake back, check out http://www.irakeback.co.uk/ for International poker sites with the best bonusses when you sign up.
Good luck!
It really depends on the stakes and type of game that you will be playing online. It is good that you have started to read books and get an idea of proper strategy. You have to understand though, on some tables you might see almost 100 hands per hour. That is equivalent to sitting at a casino for 4 hours. The money is definitely there to be made, but discipline plays a big factor on whether you will win or lose. If you play patient, solid poker, you can make quite a bit of money playing online. Once again, DISCIPLINE is the key. You will see people playing a wide variety of cards and sometimes winning with junk. Don’t let yourself get tempted into playing bad cards and you will be fine. Hope this helps a little and good luck at the tables.
Its very good that you have read the books about this.
Yes play online is the best option and as your are new should play the free poker games and when you are fully confident you can play for real money.
Making money is totally depend on your playing skills and experience. Many people makes good money by playing poker games.
I’d like to recommend you Cirrus Casino – http://www.cirruscasino.net where you can play poker games for free and real money. They also offers huge bonuses and promotions for new players.
If you’ve read the right books (2+2 Books mostly) it isn’t hard after you do it the right way. Start small. Learn to profit from bad players. Learn to develop a bankroll. There are great bankroll guides out there that teach you to play the right bonuses so you can make extra money on top of what you make at the tables. The site listed below has a lot of great information, especially if you are in the US.
It is not difficult as long as you do the basics correct. I would recommend playing free poker first and once you have an idea of what you are doing move to low buy in games. Players do play a lot different for money than they do in free games so you will see a difference immediately. I only learnt how to play a little over 3 years ago and for the first year i played only free poker online and with friends. 2 years ago i started playing for money and it is still only a hobby for me but i have made a bit over US$35k profit in that time and i’m planning to play my first televised tourney next year (a $2,000 buy in event). My biggest single win is only US$1400 so the profit i’ve made is due to consistency rather than one lucky win. You will learn a lot as you go along and it is important not to get impatient.
There are many poker blogs out there that can help answer your question better, such as http://sponsoredpokerpro.com/. Blogs like this offer information on the best poker plays and where you can get the greatest value for your money with online poker. Of course it would help to practice at home with friends, or visit a casino and not to bet too much, so you can try your hand at it and learn the rules.
There are sites that will give you free money usually $50 to play with at the leading online poker rooms (Full Tilt, Pokerstars etc.). http://www.pokerstrategy.com/uIVQI3 is such a site they provide strategy articles, videos and live coaching sessions. It is free to join and they also provide a free $50 to start providing you can pass their poker quiz. If you are serious about getting good then this is an ideal place to start. They also offer rakeback as well. Their coaches are big winners in the online games.
Unforunately they dont accept americans so If you are american you can also try http://www.freepokercash.org
You will always have people saying don’t play online poker because you’ll get ripped off, these people don’t realise that you can get ripped off by very “handy” dealers in real casinos as well. Starting online is the best, you can start online with free games too, this will help you improve your skills against a variety of people without needing a poker face just yet. Everyone has to start somewhere. When playing online poker just do some research first on the site you plan to play on, search for reviews from a variety of sources to check on the legitimacy and any pending legal action or accusations against the site, example of fulltilt poker who is currently under lawsuits due to claims of bots etc, so do your homework, if you do your homework properly you will get a good site that you won’t get ripped off on, just because people lose doesn’t mean that the site is rigged, just means usually that they don’t like losing and need to blame someone for their lack of skills. Here is a listing of some poker sites and reviews for them, maybe check some of them out and find more reviews on them for a start http://www.poker777.com/poker-reviews.ph…
the skill of players online is much much better than live. I can’t stress that enough. Someone who crushes live and tries to play the same stakes on line will get chewed up so quick. Online is more of a math game. If you have advanced math poker skills, give it a shot. If not, live is much easier to make money, and more fun.
yes its hard to make good money playing cards its like any other job but if you lose you not only time but you lose your paycheck too.. see 9 to5 job you make minimum wage at-least but as card player you might not ….i have seen people win a lot in game and get up and walk away broke or player sit 8 hr on a 20/40 game and walk away with 5 bucks profit …. this is the facts of playing ….now what you have seen on tv ok the pro do not have to pay for entry fee to the tournament and some even get sponsor to pay for them
It is difficult anywhere, there are millions of players at some of the sites and most of them even not so good are rushers, if you play tournaments you will see at least 1-2 camikadzees on your table that will go all in on stupid cards…
poker is a skill game no luok in it at all you get good you get pid as simpl as that leran the game insightout go to forums talk to players you will get good that way and yes you can make a living from it.
yes, starting online is easier than live because you’re new. you will have signals that pros will pick up on. no, its not hard. just remember that you’re there to win in the long run not the short so you need to grind it out. win one good pot per hour and youre on your way
I am earning pretty good money (about $1500/month)( filling online surveys. There are many
online survey companies but most of them are scam. Here is my favorite one:http://tra.kz/getpaid
They pay like a clock.. And they pay real good )
